Have a Commercial Kitchen to Rent?

Back in January last year we wrote about Kitchen Chicago, a local venture that allowed up and coming food-based businesses and entrepreneurs to rent a commercial kitchen so they could produce their goodies legally.

The comments on that post have been among the most active on our site. We find lots of people looking for a kitchen to rent, but not so many with kitchens to rent.

So here's the deal - if you have a commercial kitchen you are willing to rent to a qualified user (ServSafe or other health certification in hand), or are willing to help a potential renter get certified so they can use your kitchen to legally produce commercial foodstuffs, send me your info.

Send it to: barrett@toomanychefs.com. I need from you:

  1. Your name,

  2. The name of your business,

  3. Where you are located

  4. A brief description of the facilities available to a renter (what kind of mixer, ovens, rack capacity, refrigeration, etc...),

  5. What certification would be required where you are located for an individual or small business to use your kitchen,

  6. If you are willing and able to train someone to take that test and get that certification

  7. What you would like to charge for use of the kitchen

  8. When the kitchen would be available (Sundays, last weekend of the month, etc...)

  9. How the potential user contacts you

  10. Other considerations (insurance, etc...)

Send that info to me at barrett@toomanychefs.com and I will compile it into a post next month so interested renters can find you.

Doesn't this violate our advertising policy? : )

And surely the Rachel Ray post has more visits than this one!!

Posted by Meg in Paris on February 21, 2006 at 3:32 PM

Well, I'll do the posting so I'll owe us all the money from the Advertising Policy.

And yes, Rachael Ray gets more posts than commercial kitchens, but the commercial kitchens posts RARELY make me want to plunge hot chicken satay skewers into my eyes so I don't have to read one more word of that idiocy.

Rarely.

I am a chef in Chicago looking for a kitchen I could lease all or part of for my small chocolates business. I would need a permanent area of a few hundred square feet to store and use my own equipment. I do not require ovens, stove tops, or much else, just a proper kitchen space with 3-sinks, water and electric. However, I do require low humidity and cool temperatures so this rules out many possible shared arrangements. I am looking downtown, but for the right arrangement I could travel.

COMMERCIAL KITCHEN SPACE NEEDED!!!

High end catering company looking for kitchen space to sublet or share with existing tenant. Currently sharing a kitchen, but the building was sold and we are being kicked out in the COLD streets of North Hollywood! Looking for fridge space and storage space – no office space needed but would be a definite PLUS! We are super clean and friendly employees who are VERY flexible. We would need FULL ACCESS, but our schedule varies weekly from four to five days per week to none at all. We are located near North Hollywood and would love to stay within the vicinity – from Encino to Burbank and are looking to move in by August. Please contact me via email: Liberty@LadyLibertyCatering.com if you have a kitchen or know of someone who would want to be relieved of their hefty monthly rent!!!

Looking for a company in Los Angeles with a commercial kitchen that has baking, refrigeration and freezing and warehouseing for a small startup "fresh" food business. These are non-meat products. We need to have a facility that can handle yeast. Hand assembly is essential. Low tech, very low automation required. Are willing to discuss partnership but are willing to pay for work done. This is a healthy based product and very innovative. All recipes and packaging have been developed. Distribution is still up in the air but so far it has been tested and very well received. Food product has been tested for shelf life and report is available.

Please email inquiries to: redondorch@yahoo.com or gkilzi@earthlink.net

Some advice please ! We have an opportunity to rent a kitchen in a breakfast /lunch restaurant on a part time basis. Hopefully that would enable us to get Certified with a license. Off the record, do we have to prepare everything at that location since it is small ?

I'm looking for a small kitchen or health dept. certified place to rent in Chicago's southwest suburbs (aurora, bolingbrook, joliet, etc) to manufacture ice cream. I really don't need to cook anything other than to the use of the 3 compartment sink and to run my batch freezer (3ft by 2ft) to make my ice cream. The location will have to be under health dept. inspection, but I'll obtain my own permit.
Please send email.

I've just relocated to Nashville, TN; had a commercial kitchen in NY where I ran a bistro/catering operation. All of my equipment/supplies, etc. are still in New York until I can ship them.

I'm working on relaunching my business (it's registered, etc.) but I don't want to establish my own commercial kitchen right now as my new business model is going to involve less cooking.

I am a culinary school grad so I know all the rules, etc. about food. My ServSafe has expired but I will be recertifying.

I'm looking for space to rent in a Catering Kitchen - I won't know an exact use ratio until after my business get's going (i.e., booking clients.)

I would need cooking, refrigeration/freezing & some food storage space, etc. Office space is not a must, but if you can provide a cubby that would be helpful

If you have such a space available, please contact me. You can call me at 615-340-3430 - ask for Audrey

Does a commercial kitchen rental business already exist in South Florida, and if not, would there be a large demand for such a space in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area?

I know such businesses already exist in other areas of the country and would like to know how successful they are.

Please reply to adrisamiami@yahoo.com.

Thanks for the input!

I noticed there are several people looking for commercial space in the Chicago area. I know others looking for space also and everyone seems to agree that Kitchen Chicago is a rip off. If anyone else is of similar thinking please email me and we should determine if we can group together to rent space ourselves. Why keep searching for an ideal space when we can group together and create our own! Since it sounds like most of our products are different I doubt we will be competing against each other but our varius clients and contact could help each of us generate even more business.

I hope to hear from many of you soon.

It would be great if there was a kitchen available for when i have certain need to prepare a lot of catering for a certain event. Being able to prepare it close to the event rather than taking it all from my kitchen would save me a lot of time. so if there are any kitchens in Wisconsin available I'd love to know about them just so I can keep a list of different places.

I am looking for a commissary kitchen in the silver spring area. I wouldneed the kitchen approx. 6 hours per week, will need both dry and refrig/freezer space. (not much- a couple of large kettles in refrig along with approx five 5 gallon containers in freezer at any given time). It would also be helpful if there was delivery acceptance. I would prefer to use the kitchen early evenings, so a catering kitchen would work well, or a daytime coffee shop. Any ideas?

thank you

Wow. That is a LOT of comments. Are ALL of these rented kitchens going to make you have a ServSafe Certification and Insurance?

I don't have a ServSafe certification, but I have an OSHA certification. Why doesn't that count?!?
